After hours of agonizing travel by plane, and then by bus, we finally arrived in the heart of Rexburg and a forgettable little town with only one claim to fame: Brigham Young University-Idaho. Thousands of students travel from all over the United States, and some from various countries around the world, to attend this unremarkable little school in the heart of potato country.

Why Idaho, of all places?

My best friend and I arrive on a freezing cold day in January, ready to start our first semester of school here. Why do students from places like sunny California or soggy Washington go to school in Idaho? For that matter, why do people come from Korea, Ireland, parts of Africa, and many South American countries? Why do they fly or drive to a blip on the map to attend a school they've never even seen?
